why time travel is a myth

time travel is every man's dream; wishing to change something in the past; dreaming to twist the future as per our will or just travelling in the time for fun has been a constant theme of novels, stories and movies.

i have read various theories about why time travel 'is' possible and why it is 'not'. among all theories i read about why it is 'not' possible, i tend to believe stephen hawking's straight argument. he suggested that if time travel in to the future was possible, why aren't we able to travel to future yet? - and if travel in to the past is possible , then why people from future are and were never observed in our times? i believe that argument settles the time travel once for all. however- only excuse in this argument can be- man will invent way to travel back and forth in time in some time (centuries/ millenia) from now; but they 'may' develop a way to travel only 'some time' in the past that is still in future for us, and at the same time they may well have ability to go in to future as well. distant dream i reckon :)

Well, I guess there is big difference in understanding of what time travel is. In future we might be able to find the ways to see what actually happened in past (like when we see a star 30 million light years away from us, we are actually looking into past). But this is passive activity where we can't change anything. Hawkins was essentially talking more about active time travel, which I would like to believe is not possible for the same argument made by Hawkins and sheer common sense of this idea...
